About Me
Hypnobirthing Instructor
Hi, I’m Hannah from Birth Happy Devon.
I am delighted to introduce myself as a certified Hypnobirthing Instructor living in beautiful South Devon.
My journey that led me to hypnobirthing was transformative. I was 25, pregnant with my first baby, and apprehensive about the huge life changing event ahead. During an antenatal class we were handed a hypnobirthing book by another set of parents-to-be. We were sceptical to begin with, but after reading it we were surprised how scientific and evidence based it was. It all just made sense! My husband and I then booked a hypnobirthing course in 2017 and I truly believe it enabled us to have two incredible births with our two wonderful boys.
I have been on a mission ever since to educate, empower and prepare birthing women for the most positive birth experience, for which I eventually decided to take the plunge and become a teacher! I will give you the tools and exercises you need in my class to make informed choices about your pregnancy and birth.
Ultimately, I want this to be something you are really looking forward to and your journey to meeting your baby a fantastically positive one!
What is Hypnobirthing?

What is Hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is an evidence based method of childbirth preparation that take birth back to basics. It was created in 1988 by Marie Mongan.
It uses; relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and positive affirmations to help empower pregnant women and their birth companions to navigate the birthing process with confidence.
Whether it is your first baby or your 6th, whether you are planning; a home birth, hospital birth, caesarean section, free birth, VBAC, water birth, or an induction, Hypnobirthing will help to prepare you.
Practicing your Hypnobirthing techniques throughout pregnancy, alongside learning about the physiology of birth, will help you remain focused, calm and in control when the day comes to meet your baby…
And most importantly to have the most positive birth experience that you can!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What stage of pregnancy is your course suitable for? I take bookings from 12 weeks to 37 weeks. It is never too early to start! The more you get practicing, the quicker it will feel like second nature to you for your birth.
-
Will I be hypnotised like you see on stage? No, definitely not! There is an element of self-hypnosis as part of the course. This can be practiced by listening to hypnosis script MP3’s. The aim is to reach a state of deep relaxation. You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis, and it is completely self-controlled.
-
Will I have a pain free birth? I cannot promise you that you will have a pain free birth, but yes, it is possible. We talk about pain openly in my course and learn techniques to help manage the discomfort/ sensations.
-
How long is the course? The course that I teach is 10 hours. This is usually spread over four sessions of 2.5 hours. If you are staying for a retreat then the session lengths may be different depending on the length of your stay.
-
Will hypnobirthing still help me if I have a caesarean section? Yes, in my course we cover all types of birth and ways that we can make your birth a positive one. Birth can be incredibly unpredictable, so it is important that we learn about all birth types.
-
My partner works away. Is it necessary for him/her to attend? While it would be ideal for your partner to attend all the courses, I do understand that everyone has different life circumstances and schedules to work around. You will be given a copy of ‘The Calm Birth Method’ as part of the course, and I would recommend that they read this as a minimum. It is also possible that your partner could dial in via zoom to our live sessions too!
-
What are your qualifications? I have trained with The Calm Birth School and have a Think Tree Accredited Level 3 Diploma.
